I’m all too familiar with the effect you provided… that’s why I set out to redefine what everyone seems to think that bronze text looks like.
Look at these reference pics:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/cb/220kg_Gold_brick_Taiwan_Museum.jpg
One is bronze, and the other is gold, but both are shiny, whereas your provided text is dull.
Thank you for your feedback though.

Thank-you so much for sharing your knowledge, which creates your legacy on this earth. Have always wanted to know how to do this. I’m working on a brochure for a Lawyer and I think this effect will be great. Great Tutorial!

Thank you Jeri, I’m very happy to hear that this came in handy for you, and I think that this effect would be great for a project like you mentioned.
This is what I love to hear–that people can learn from my tutorials, and then apply that knowledge to other things, so that you can actually become a better designer rather than just learn how to copy other people’s work.

Is there any chance you could add screen shots of pallets so we could have a visual. I’ve been stopping and starting the video to take notes, but it would be easier to have visuals. I tried to do my own screen shots but the pallets were so small I couldn’t read them. I still love your effect you created either way. Thanks again.

Hello Jeri. You could go to the HD version on vimeo by clicking the title inside of the video frame before you click play… that might let you see it better.
Or, if you would just like to have the project file so you can just copy and paste the layer styles to your own text, I’ve added the .psd for free download!

Thank-you so much. I got the effect you described in your tutorial, and it turned out beautiful. I tweaked the colors to go with my background, but even that looks great. My client is going to LOVE it.
P.S. I’m nearly 3x your age, so even us older designers are able to gain benefit from your great effect ;O)
